Travel grant for smell and taste research

Travel grant from the Olfactology / Gustology Working Group

In an effort to promote young scientists in research in the field of olfactology and gustology, the following guidelines for awarding a travel grant for olfactory and gustatory research were adopted by the Presidium of the German Society for Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery and the Board of the Olfactology/Gustology Working Group (ArGe Olf/Gust) in September 2014:

1. the ArGe Olf/Gust awards an annual sum of up to € 3,000 as a grant for a research trip lasting several weeks, taking into account the respective financial situation. This is intended to enable the scholarship holder to study olfactological or gustological issues in greater depth at selected clinics and institutes. During the research stay, the scholarship holders follow a structured programme that has been curricularly coordinated with the board of the ArGe Olf/Gust.

2 The travelling grant is awarded up to twice a year, depending on the financial situation.

3. the travelling scholarship can only be awarded to members of the German Society for Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery in a non-independent professional position at a German ENT clinic. The applicant must not be older than 40 years at the time of application.

4 Applications must be submitted in writing to the Chairman of the ArGe Olf/Gust by 31 March or 30 September of each year. The following documents must be enclosed with the application:

5 Applications are reviewed by the Board of ArGe Olf/Gust, which decides on the awarding of the travel grant by a simple majority vote. The allocation of the clinic location is the responsibility of the Board of the Arge Olf/Gust. The decision shall be forwarded to the Presidium of the German Society for Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery for information.

6. the members of the ArGe Olf/Gust will be informed of the decision.

7. after completion of the sponsored research trip, the scholarship holder shall send a report to the Board of the ArGe Olf/Gust on the research results 

research results, what has been learnt and its evaluation and, if applicable, other experiences. The final report shall be accompanied by proof of the utilisation of the funds provided. Unused funds are to be refunded to the account of ArGe Olf/Gust.

8. a resolution of the ArGe Olf/Gust Board with a simple majority and final approval by the Presidium of the German Society for Ear, Nose and Throat Medicine, Head and Neck Surgery is required for the further development of the guidelines and their adaptation to changed circumstances.
